History & Heritage
Incorporated in 1870, Norcross was named after Jonathan Norcross, a friend of Atlanta entrepreneur J.J. Thrasher and the city’s fourth mayor. From its beginnings as a railroad hub, Norcross quickly gained a reputation as “Atlanta’s Favorite Summer Resort.” The famous “Airline Belle” commuter train once carried visitors daily between Atlanta and Norcross for a weekend getaway.
